Do I always need to guard against relapse?

You should always be aware of your personal relapse triggers, no matter how long you've been quit. Be sure to have a strategy to respond to each of them. If you are caught off guard with an urge, especially if others are smoking, excuse yourself for a few minutes and reaffirm your quit. If you feel you are on shaky ground, don't be afraid to leave the situation. Your quit should always remain your number one priority.
