Quit Q&A

What is the inhaler, and how does it work?

The nicotine inhaler is designed to bridge the addictive and behavioral (ie, hand-to-mouth) gap between quitting cold turkey and continuing to smoke. The inhaler replaces the nicotine in cigarettes and thus cuts down on cravings. The inhaler also provides the hand-to-mouth motion that's associated with cigarette smoking. It keeps mouths and hands busy (up to 200 times a day for those pack-per-day smokers). Nicotine is absorbed through the tissue of the mouth. Only a fraction reaches the lungs. Menthol is included to provide a smoke-like sensation in the back of the throat.
