Addiction is addiction; nicotine is addictive. Nicotine, like all addictive substances, changes forever the way your brain responds to it. Thus, once an addict, always an addict. Your brain cells will always ‘remember’ nicotine. The only known cure for addiction is daily abstinence. Eventually, as you develop an image of yourself as an EX-chewer, thoughts of using smokeless tobacco will wane, and you’ll have developed defenses against such thinking. One chew, however, will hurt, as it re-awakens the body’s craving for nicotine and potentially jump-starts the addictive process all over again.
