Quit Q&A

Need help?

I feel like I'm having PMS when I quit; would NRTs help?

As a woman, you were profoundly affected by the hormone-shifting nature of nicotine, and can feel the same effects again now that you've quit and your estrogen levels, etc, are shifting. Withdrawal for women (especially if they quit right before their menstrual cycle) can feel similar to PMS. 'Jitters' are caused primarily by the central nervous system readjusting to the absence of nicotine. NRTs can be important to soften the impact of hormonal shifts.
