Quit Q&A

Need help?

Should I change my quit date and start over if I slip?

A slip is a temporary break in abstinence. A relapse is a return to addictive usage patterns. A slip doesn't have to turn into relapse, and won't, unless you decide it will. A slip is not necessarily a good reason to change your quit date or stop your quit-medication. Your odds of success are better if you treat the slip as an isolated incident and learn from it. Plan for ways to handle the same situation next time. That being said, it might be important for you to be very strict and clear about tobacco abstinence. Listen to your inner voice. Redouble your efforts, don't hesitate to use your support network, and KTQ!
